Exposed aggregate concrete mixture contains smoother and finer aggregrates, or stones, than conventional concrete. Since the stones are not crushed, they are very comfortable underfoot.

This exposed finish is achieved by applying a retardant to the fresh concrete and later washing off the top layer of sandy concrete mix, exposing the stones. The stones are only exposed enough to reveal their shape and color, not enough to make winter snow shoveling difficult.
